Some of the most commonly made enquiries are below:
When do you guys shoot at the range?
We supervise the Mayleigh event on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month. It is recommended you arrive by 11:30, as sometimes the event starts earlier than the normal 12:30. There are also other shooting competitions that occur at other times during the month.
What type of firearms are allowed at the range?
The pistol range allows air, rimfire, and centrefire pistols up to .357 magnum.
Are there rental firearms available on site?
Yes. There are three rimfire pistols, one semi-automatic, and the others are revolvers. Ammunition is also for sale.
Can I bring guests to the shooting range?
Guests are welcome, but must comply with all safety rules and sign in. It is recommended they bring hearing protection.
Are safety equipment and training provided on-site?
Licensed pistol shooters are expected to have their own hearing and eye protection. However, the range does have safety gear and offers introductory training sessions for beginners.
Can I bring my own firearms and ammunition?
Yes, you may bring personal firearms and ammunition, provided they meet our safety guidelines.
How can I check if the “Mayleigh” pistol event is happening?
At the top of the home page of this website (this page), it will state “Mayleigh event is scheduled” under normal circumstances. If the range is closed due to flooding or other unforeseen circumstances, it will state “Mayleigh event is cancelled”. If you are unsure, you can contact the local range.
Do I need a license to use the shooting range?
Yes, all shooters must present a valid firearm license before accessing the range. However, an unlicensed shooter of a fit and proper nature can “try” pistol shooting if they can fill out a P650 form, and have a clean background check. Please contact your local range for further information.
Is there a membership program available?
To shoot at a range, you must be a member of a recognised pistol organisation, have an appropriate category on your firearms licence, a member of the club, and have a range pass. For more information, contact your local range.
Is it safe?
Absolutely. All shooters are following a structured set of commands provided by experienced range captains and officers. Safety is the number one rule when ever firearms are involved. Despite the MSM driven “guns are bad” mantra, pistol shooting is one of the safest sports.
